Senior Citizen Information

Discount Taxicab Program

The Discount Taxicab Program is designed to provide senior citizens and disabled residents living within the corporate limits of the City of Prospect Heights with affordable, convenient transportation.The program is based on the meter fare for all rides. Residents may travel to any location outside of Prospect Heights (excluding O'Hare Airport) as well as within town. The City will pay fifty percent (50%) of the meter fare, up to $3.00 and the participant will pay the remainder.

RIVER TRAILS PARK DISTRICT
  The Social/Rec committee has worked with the River Trails Park district to have their Bus stop at the Clubhouse for their Trips. From the hilarious 'Some Like It Hot' SUGAR features the same memorable characters. Joe & Jerry, 2 musicians, witness a gang rub-out in the Clark Street Garage ordered by Spats Palazzo, notorious Chicago hood. Spats & his boys chase after Joe & Jerry to silence them. Desperate for a quick way out, Joe & Jerry hear about jobs for a saxophone & bass player, their specialties. The band is leaving for Florida. There's one problem; the band is all female. With costuming, padding, makeup & slight voice adjustments, they become Josephine & Daphne & are hired by 'Sweet Sue & her Society Syncopators.' Includes transportation, lunch & show.

Of Bogs and Bugs: A Visit to Volo Bog!

Natural Resources Coordinator Stacy Iwanicki will share personal stories of "bugs" and a fascinating introduction to Volo Bog-- Illinois' only open-water quaking bog. Discover paper wasps, bald-faced hornets, mud daubers, yellow-jackets and all the fascinating structures they make. Learn how to live among these insects in peace -- and what to do when they cross the proverbial line.
Then we'll go back in time on a virtual tour of Volo Bog, originally created by the melting of the Wisconsin Glacier. Eleven thousand years in the making, this Natural Landmark is home to floating trees, carnivorous plants and a wide variety of wildlife. Earn one "Scare Up A Good Book" summer reading book credit when you attend this program.
