The days are colder and Winter has arrived. As the temperatures drop, there is a briskness to the evenings and snow flakes in the air. Rob Roy has taken on a blanket of snow that gives Rob Roy a new beauty of a different type. As you stroll, dress for the weather and watch out for ice patches.

Book Discussion Group

The Rob Roy Book Discussion Group will meet at 1:00 p.m. at the Clubhouse on Friday, January 2nd. We will be choosing the books to be read in 2009 at the January meeting, so bring a list of your newest favorites or books that you would be interested in reading. The February selection is "Mad Dash" by Patricia Gaffney. All are welcome to attend, even if you haven’t read the scheduled book!

Chair Dancing

Chair dancing began the new season on September 15th. The sessions will be held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9 AM at the Clubhouse. January dates are the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 19th, 21st, 23rd, 26th, 28th and 30th. Sessions last about 45 minutes and help keep your muscles in tone with low stress exercise. Computer Club

The Computer Club will meet on Tuesday, January 13th between 1:00 and 3:00 PM in the Clubhouse. This month's topic is setting up a BUDGET SPREADSHEET. Even if you don't plan to use a budget spreadsheet, you will learn all about the features and functions of spreadsheets. FOR ALL COMPUTER NEWBIES: Bring your questions to our Open Forum after our main topic. We're open to your concerns, with information to help you! All Rob Roy residents are welcome to attend any meeting of interest. Line Dancing

Line Dancing has started again for the season. Sessions will be held on the first and third Tuesday each month at 9:30 a.m. at the Clubhouse. The January dates are the 6th and the 20th. Check the Newsletter for complete information.

Koffee Klatch

Thursdays, January 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th at 10:00 A.M. in the Clubhouse. On the 8th we will have an "Un-Decorate the Clubhouse" party and luncheon, reservations are required for this lunch. Meet your neighbors, our new hosts and enjoy coffee and treats served by your volunteer hosts of the day. This is an ideal way to learn about Rob Roy and the activities that are being offered.

Ones is a group of single ladies from Rob Roy who meet the 2nd Wednesday of every month for dinner and conversation. The Ones will meet on Wednesday, January 14th at 6:00 PM. Reservations are required, please check the Newsletter for information.

Quilting/Needlecraft Group

Piecemakers has changed it's name to Quilting/Needlecraft Group. In January we will have a Workshop Day on Saturday, January 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in addition to our regular meeting at 1 PM on January 6th at the clubhouse. At the Workshop we are offering a demonstration/class in Paper Piecing. Join us in sewing a Paper-Pieced bookmark with a butterfly - see the photo at left. Or, bring your own project or just observe. If you plan to participate in making the Butterfly Bookmark, please check the Newsletter for information on sign-up and a supply list. Our group has expanded to include needlework of all kinds, including knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, needlepoint, etc. Join us and share your needlework hobby and your ideas with the group!

The Rob Roy Family Singers will not meet in January in order to rest their voices after the great show at the Holiday Open House. All Rob Roy residents are welcome, so check the Newsletter for the next meeting date to bring your best voice and join this new group.

Texas Hold-Em

TEXAS HOLD'EM - you've seen it become one of the most popular shows on TV. Come join us, meet new people and have some fun on the first and third Mondays of the month at 7:00 p.m. If you don't know how to play, we will teach you. The January sessions will be on the 5th and 19th at the Clubhouse, so bring your best "Poker Face" and maybe Santa will bring you a good hand.

GRAB YOUR RED HATS, LADIES! The Social/Rec Committee has started a chapter of the Red Hat Society which is open to all ladies who are age 50 or over. We will meet at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 22nd at the Clubhouse at 1 PM. Everyone is welcome to join the Rob Roy Red Hatters group, see the newsletter for information.

Ladies and Mixed Tennis

All new and former tennis players are invited to join us for breakfast on the first Saturday of every month (from November through April). We'll meet at the Clubhouse at ten o'clock to carpool. The Holiday Tennis Brunch will be on Saturday, January 3rd at 10 AM Check the newsletter for more details. The regular tennis season will start again when the nets go up in the spring.

The season is over and the Champions have been crowned. Mary and Barb are the new Co-Chair People, so watch for the notice of the new season in the newsletter or on the website. There is still time to sign up at the Clubhouse for the 2009 season. Meanwhile get some practice in during the remaining warm days.

With the pools closing, so is Swimnastics, after another great season. Classes will start again next season. Registration is required - watch the newsletters next spring for more information.
